into these intership programs for young people. i met a guy who worked for the public tv station in boston and retired from that job and wanted to be a park ranger. he couldn't figure out how to get there so he joined the internship program. there wasn't anybody nells his class over the age of 19. i met a woman in denver whose daughter went through teach for america and as she watched her daughter teach in a los angeles classroom she was so moved she applied for teach for america herself. she was in her late 50's herself and ended up in a dorm room in houston in 115 degree temperatures sharing a bathroom down the hall with three 22-year-olds. whether they were repelling down from the ceiling or speaking in the side door there are more and more people trying to find these path ways to purpose. we created at encore.org the fellowship program which was designed to be a front door for many people who wanted to make this passage. it started in silicon valley with ten people who had careers in the corporate sector and wanted to work in the environment and with kids with poverty but had no idea to get there.

married in boston, cannot file a joint tax return. they cannot get benefits under social security for their spouse like another merit couple would. a series of lawsuits have been filed a federal appeals court in boston and new york ruled tartabull law is unconstitutional. it denies gays and lesbians equal protection under the law. they are legally married. the court said they deserve the same legal rights. the obama administration would not defend that law. the house republicans appointed john clement. many of those cases are under appeal and they will surely decide one of those cases this spring host: is there one more likely than the other? guest: that is an inside baseball question. the problem that arose is that elena kagan was the solicitor general when some of those cases were beginning and she mentioned at her confirmation hearings that she had participated in discussions about one of the cases. i think what the court wants to try to do is find a case where she came later and had no involvement. you want nine justices. they don't want age. you could get a split in the would

in boston. you see the roads. a lot of cars heading out of town. 43.6 million people traveling this thanksgiving weekend. that is a slight increase from last year. more people driving 50 miles since 2007. the national average for gasoline at $3.41. look at this image here. it is a little hard to tell but behind all of those plains that's the united states. and right now 5,000 flights are in the air according to the flights. the airlines are counting on a quiet thanksgiving to fuel fourth quarter profits. average domestic air fare at $180. fewest number of people flying however since 2009. when you have fewer seats which is what we have because capacity has been stripped out you have higher air fare rrs. you have seen air fares are up 16%. a as a lot of people talk about being thankful on thanksgiving. let's look at one airline stock you wanted to own. u.s. airways up 192%. not entirely because of the business but more because of the speculation. >> thanks so much. >> the latest on your travel for the weekend. >>> and finally my observation on the warning bernanke issued to amer

angeles, new york, philadelphia and boston. so i would say that those are going to be some of the busiest airports this holiday season. >> you know, wendy, not everybody goes over the river and through the woods to have turkey and cranberry sauce with grandma. most depressing thing i saw this week is families camping out at the big box stores like now and they're going to have, you know, i don't know canned food or something tomorrow for lunch and dinner or whatever you call it and then black friday. that depresses me. are there other more fun unconventional thanksgiving you have heard of? >> well, what i found is really interesting. the trip adviser survey found about 40% of people are actually dining out this thanksgiving. they're not cooking at home. they're going out to a restaurant. so that was pretty interesting. not everyone wants the stress of making the turkey. >> cowards! >> that's okay. but i would recommend you find your restaurant in advance. a lot aren't actually open on thanksgiving so make sure you have your reservations well in advance. we also found that people are shopp

for the folks in boston. the conservatives never trusted him. they didn't even trust him when he got the republican nomination back in the spring of this year. the point is these individuals are opportunists, both on the republican side and also on the democratic side. they don't care about loyalty. they don't care about making sure that the best guy wins. what they care about is a paycheck. it's despicable, quite frankly. >> erin, let's take a look at this from both sides. looks like the hard right is saying, stop pushing us. it's not our fault. this guy wasn't a great candidate. moderates and pragmatic people are saying, oh, no, it's just -- you're too far right, too tough on women, minorities latinos, young people. take a look at this guy, chris, president of the conservative club for growth. he wrote today, quote, if you're a republican who yernz for the days of arlen specter and charlie chriristcrist. if you prefer republican party of toomey, rubio and cruz, you should be leery of the folks in washington deciding which republicans are the most electable. you have this guy pushin
